What Is Child Abuse?

Child abuse is defined as any intentional harm or mistreatment of a child under the age of 18. Child abuse manifests itself in a variety of ways.
Types of Child Abuse
There are five types of child abuse:
1. Physical abuse

Physical abuse occurs when a child is intentionally injured by another person.
2. Sexual abuse

Sexual abuse is defined as any sexual activity with a child. It could take the form of either sexual or non-sexual contact.
Sexual contact examples are intentional sexual touching, oral-genital contact, or intercourse. However, non-sexual contact could be exposing a child to sexual activity or pornography.
3. Emotional abuse

Emotional abuse is causing harm to a child's self-esteem or emotional well-being.
It includes verbal and emotional abuse, such as berating a child on a regular basis, as well as isolating, ignoring, or rejecting a child.
4. Medical abuse

Medical abuse occurs when someone provides wrong information about a child's illness that necessitates medical attention. Thus, it puts the child at risk of unnecessary medical care and health problems.
5. Neglect

Failure to provide adequate food, clothing, shelter, clean living conditions, affection, or education is considered child neglect.
When you see a child in need, get them the help they deserve and report any sort of abuse they are experiencing right away.
